Health & Safety

Mid South Contractors ULC is committed to the health and safety of all its employees, subcontractors and visitors, with the continuing goal of zero lost time injuries on all jobsites.

To achieve our safety goals, Mid South Contractors ULC has implemented a culture of safety awareness throughout all aspects of the job - from the estimating and quoting process all the way through to the completion of the work.

The main method used to establish this safety culture is continuing education such as:

  • Management Safety Training
  • Supervisor Safety Training
  • Orientation Safety Training
  • Electrical Safety Training (e.g. lockout & arc flash training)
  • Equipment Operation Safety Training (e.g. man lift & lift truck operation training)
  • Hazard Specific Training (e.g. confined space training)
  • Safety Talks (covering safe work practices and site-specific hazard controls)
Continuing education, combined with the following two key elements, make up a safety program that creates the culture necessary to achieve our goals:
  • Positive Reinforcement (when workers and supervisors are working safely and following company policies and procedures); and
  • Disciplinary Actions (when workers and supervisors are not working safely and/or are not following company policies and procedures).
Proof that this safety culture is helping us achieve our safety goals ca be seen in the fact that Mid South Contractors ULC won the R.H. (Hugh) Carroll Safety Award for multiple years the latest being 2014.

The award is presented annually by the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario to the electrical contractor with the best safety record for the total hours worked.

This recognition has encouraged Mid South Contractors ULC to continue to improve its safety program to achieve not only no lost time injuries, but to try and eliminate all accidents and incidents on our jobsites.
